The variety of opportunities at this school never ceases to amaze me…the children get a pretty awesome deal. It was shared at a staff meeting, and I shared at celebration time last week…just the sheer amount of things for the children: Touch, netball, summer hockey, tee-ball, mod-softball, softball, robotics groups, jump jam, pride team, art club, Kids Kōrero, Te Roopu Kaiarahi, a Games Hub, sewing club, creek groups, tracking and trapping, Enviro team, choir, movie team…and these are just the ‘extras’ available at break times.
In the class recently there have been some other cool opportunities.
Mr Riley took his radio team down to Arrow FM to record their show. How awesome doing this in an actual recording studio! You can hear the show here…scroll down to find the “Live Wires’ podcast
Our Kahikatea students as part of their Inquiry Learning have been going around to Wairarapa College to engage in some science learning. Learning about body systems, lungs, hearts…and even doing some dissections! Real life learning, so engaging for our children.
And last week we had Ruud Kleinpaste (the Bugman) come to visit. Again very engaging…but so informative and inspiring for the children. A few brave children (like Aria) even got to have a weta or spiders put on them…brave!
The variety is awesome, but alongside that…so is the passion from the staff. Big thanks to them for organising all of these opportunities.
Big day at DPS…all of us on the buses down to the Sportsbowl for our annual Athletics Day! The children have been practicing hard in their PE lessons, and today they get to compete for real. These days are great…an awesome way for the children to challenge themselves, can I jump that little bit higher, run that little bit faster, throw that little bit further? I look forward to seeing it all unfold today!
We all know that the success of our children is not just limited to the classroom, or school events…or even school itself! I love seeing the success of our children outside our influence…and love seeing their passions.
Well done to Isabella…big weekend competing at the local A+P show with her pony Chloe. A successful time…look at all those ribbons!
We have a compulsory school uniform and this can be purchased through NZ Uniforms. All uniform items must be named inside with a permanent marker or have sewn on name tags. Hats are compulsory for outdoors in Terms 1 and 4. Any items worn under the DPS uniform that can be visible, need to be black. Shoes and socks must be black also. All children playing sports for DPS must wear the DPS sports uniform. This can also be purchased through NZ Uniforms. No jewellery except for items of high sentimental value or taonga. Due to safety concerns, stud earrings are the only type of earrings to be worn. We appreciate your ongoing support with ensuring that your child is wearing the correct and tidy uniform to school.
Blake has lost her scooter. It looks similar to this. It has Blake scrapped into the bottom plate. Please keep an eye out.

As more students enjoy riding their scooters and bikes to and from school, we'd like to remind everyone to stay safe. Please encourage children to ride carefully, be mindful of pedestrians, and use footpaths and road crossings safely. Wearing a properly fitted helmet is essential, and we ask all riders to slow down and show courtesy to others, especially around the school gates and nearby footpaths after school.
Thank you for helping keep our students and community safe.
We are very fortunate that our Board of Trustees subsidises stationery each year, helping to keep costs as low as possible for families. We kindly ask that all learners pay the $15.00 stationery contribution as soon as possible.
