Term 3 is underway, such a positive start here at DPS…sun has been out, children have been happy and the learning has been powerful. Mihi Whakatau tomorrow for our new students and whānau, always a wholesome event. We had 19 new students start with us this week, with more to come! I’m looking forward to a great term ahead.
Mentioned this very briefly at the end of last term…but we submitted our application to Apple to keep our Apple Distinguished School status. Part of the application (a massive part) was creating a video to showcase the school
We are holding another Learning Showcase this term…Thursday August 20th. At this stage it will be a 1.30pm start. The event will be similar to last year…our kapahaka roopu will perform to start us off, and then whānau will be able to go around the school to look at all the learning on display. Every child will have something to display, as well as lots of group and class mahi on display as well. The learning will showcase everything…from our writing, to our play, to our digital prowess, or mathematical skills, our 3D design capabilities and of course all the marvellous cardboard creations our children make.
Last year was a great success…the children were just so, so proud to share what they have been up to. We shared the video below last year as an introduction to the event…worth a little watch again!
Our first reports using the new Ministry of Education format went out on HERO at the end of last term. This was a first for us…first time reporting against the new curriculum, and the first time we have reported using a format dictated to the school by someone else.
I’d love to hear any feedback you might have on the reports…did you like the sliders, was it useful to see the attendance in that format, did the teacher comment add useful context about your child…and what did you think was missing? Feel free to send any thoughts through to me principal@douglaspark.school.nz
We held a Whānau Evening in that last week of term to explain all the reporting and curriculum changes. It was well attended, and we covered a lot of information. I made a ‘little’ recording of the presentation from the Whānau Evening…20 minutes long, but it covers a lot of ground. If you were unable to attend…have a watch!
We’ve been told that scabies is circulating in the Masterton community. Not inside our DPS community, but we need to be mindful. Some great information can be found here, and also here. It is highly contagious, and children are unable to attend school if they have scabies until after treatment has started.
When? Wednesday 29 July
Where? DPS Staffroom
Time? 7:00pm for AGM, followed by drinks and nibbles
We would love to see any old, new, returning faces at our AGM next week!
We are a group of committed parents with our main focus being fundraising to support our wonderful kids at DPS.
ALL WELCOME
