Our Vision: Together we Nurture, Explore and Create for a Better Future

One of the things that I love here at DPS are the opportunities that children get to be creative. Lots of this creativity might come home…but lots also end up staying at school, and being pulled back apart. We’ve recently installed some shelves in the foyer area of the office to display these pieces…to give them some status, and an audience. It’ll be a revolving gallery…but we will name the pieces and make a big deal of it with the kids.

The pieces will all be distinct and different…that's a real strength here, we don’t run the children through a ‘cookie-cutter’ method to make/create so that the whole class turns out stuff that looks the same. Rather…the children create their own unique things, for their own unique reasons. Some will be in the play/maker, some will be from Inquiry, some will be from reading/writing/maths…the opportunities are quite wide here.

Learning Showcase - Thursday 20th August

Our students have another chance to shine very soon…with our Learning Showcase event. Thursday 20th August…keep your lunch and afternoon free to come in for a look! All students have something to share…something on display, and as well as that there will be performances, demonstrations and chances to interact with the learning that happens in your child's classroom. ‘Learning’ is such a broad thing…for us at DPS it means not only the ‘core learning areas’ of Reading, Writing and Maths…but also our play, our maker, the science, technology, our Wairarapatanga, the trips out of the class, hot glue + cardboard, 3D printing, artworks…our children get many opportunities to shine here. The video below was played at the start of our event last year…just to highlight this richness in the learning here at DPS.

Scabies

Nothing much to report here…we are still being vigilant, and have put away some of the class items to help out (eg…the dress ups in the juniors are away).

Health advice was put out via HERO last week just in case you need it…but fingers crossed that doesn’t eventuate!

Miss Gray’s Literacy learners are looking at language features such as alliteration, onomatopoeia, rhyme and similes. Now that we have the idea, we will start to use them within our writing. Enjoy both our videos and written pieces.

scooter and bike safety reminder

As more students enjoy riding their scooters and bikes to and from school, we'd like to remind everyone to stay safe. Please encourage children to ride carefully, be mindful of pedestrians, and use footpaths and road crossings safely. Wearing a properly fitted helmet is essential, and we ask all riders to slow down and show courtesy to others, especially around the school gates and nearby footpaths after school.

Stationery - Payment Reminder

We are very fortunate that our Board of Trustees subsidises stationery each year, helping to keep costs as low as possible for families. We kindly ask that all learners pay the $15.00 stationery contribution as soon as possible.

Payment can be made online to ASB 12-3290-0064275-00. Please include your child's name as the reference. Alternatively, payments can be made at the office via EFTPOS, or cash can be sent to the office in a clearly named envelope.

We appreciate your prompt payment, as this helps reduce follow-up. If you are experiencing any difficulties, please contact the office - we are happy to help.

Sports Fees - Reminder

If your child is participating in a sports team for Douglas Park School, please ensure the relevant sports fees are paid as soon as possible.

Payments can be made at the DPS office (cash or EFTPOS) or via online banking:

Reference: Child’s first name, last initial, and the sport they are playing
