How great was Friday night! The turnout of whānau was huuuggge…easily the biggest we have had. Made even more important as this was just the 2nd whānau picnic in the last 5 years…due to COVID, and the terrible weather last year.
The evening air was filled with laughter, conversations and music…very wholesome. Loved seeing people interact, connect, re-connect…and just have a fun pleasant evening together. Douglas Park places a huge emphasis on Relationships, the whole first part of our Vision articulates this…Together we Nurture. The picnic showed this in action.

Another term, another round of sports for our DPS Kids. This term we have teams competing in Tee-Ball, Mod Softball, Intermediate Softball, Netball, Futsal and Girls Cricket. Great opportunities for the children, and shows the commitment of the staff to the kids (great also to have some of our parents coaching as well…thanks!). With all this adult commitment, just that reminder about the commitment back from the children. Being in a sports team means coming to practices, and turning up to games on time ready and prepared. Not turning up, being late or unprepared affects others. If you know in advance please make contact with your coach.

I got a lovely email from the Deputy Principal of Hadlow on Tuesday night that is worth sharing here. Our children living up to our PRIDE values, and Juliet being an excellent example of someone who Nurtures others. Well done guys!
We had our first netball game tonight for our year 1 and 2 team. We played DPS. I just wanted to let you know what a wonderful first game it was! Your kids and your coach in particular, (Juliet I think) were absolutely outstanding! They all showed such kindness towards everyone, warming up with us, encouraging everyone and making the whole experience such fun. The children all had an absolute ball and can't wait for next time. Thank you.

One of our big two year strategic goals is around developing a culture of creativity, and part of this is around helping children to become better at using digital tools to create. While this isn’t an area of weakness for our kids…it is something we want to get much better at.
Great example shared with me the other day by Isaac…creating his pepeha using digital tools on the iPad, and sharing it with me as a video.

Brass Lessons
Brass Lessons
Masterton district brass band are offering years 4,5,6 students a chance to learn how to play a brass instrument - Instruments are Cornet, trombone, tenor horn, baritone. lessons are in school time. There is a small cost of $50 to hire the instrument and $50 a term for the lessons, if interested either email Narissa on mastertonbrass@gmail.com or get a form from the office.

I hope you are well. My name is Caitlin Morris and I am a String Tutor in the Wairarapa region, teaching Violin, Viola, Cello and Double Bass.

Caitlin Morris is a professional string tutor in the Wairarapa. She has been teaching string instruments for over 3 years in this region. Caitlin has a Bachelor of Music in Classical Performance and Composition, along with a Masters Degree in Fine Arts. Caitlin has put many string students through Trinity and ABRSM examinations, in which all have received either merit or distinction grades. Caitlin has a passion for bringing her specialist skill to Wairarapa students and is accepting enrolments for 2024.
