Learning Conversations

Research tells us that the best person to talk about the learning is the learner. If the student has really learnt it, they should be able to describe and demonstrate evidence of that learning.

“Assess": the word comes from Latin and means “to sit beside.” Our learning conversations give parents the perfect opportunity to “sit beside” their child in a most purposeful way to discuss their learning.

Learning conversations:
  • Encourage students to accept personal responsibility for their learning.
  • Helps students recognise and take ownership for the things that interfered with their learning.
  • Develop students’ oral communication and organisational skills.
  • Shape their ability to clarify what they are learning and assess their own progress.
  • Enhance communication between student and parents around their school learning.

Learning conversations are our way of reporting to parents. They happen twice a year, one being a 'progress report', and one being their final End of Standard Learning Conversation. Your child explains their recent learning to you, demonstrates some of their learning, and will show you where they sit against their Curriculum Level Expectation.
