Douglas Park School believes firmly in Student Leadership, and the School Council is the flagship for this.
The School Council is made up of:
- 2 Lead Councillors chosen by staff
- 2 Councillors from each Year 5/6 class (a boy and a girl)
The School Council is a very independent leadership group in charge of:
- School Disco's
- School Fundraising for Charities
- Supporting Oscar, our adopted Kiwi, and Pukaha Mt Bruce
- the other Leadership Teams (Jump Jam, Office Assistants, Sports Leadership, IT Support, and the PRIDE team)
2009 Lead Councillor - Joanna Saba & Harry Eschenbach Councillors - Amie Kuresa, Jacob Kuresa, Sion Madden, Ashleigh Carson, Dylan Walsh & Bridget Milne.
A sample of their 2007 work includes:
- raising over $1000 for CanTeen (children with cancer)
- raising money for Puketapu School, a school that was badly flood damaged
- running several disco's and quizzes
- sending children to Jump Jam training
- setting up, and running, a successful Office Assistants program
Amy Williams and Gareth Sinton work with the councillors each week, developing important leadership, organisational, and teamwork skills
