SCHOOL GATE TRAFFIC
To help avoid traffic congestion we encourage as many children as possible to bike or walk to and from school.   If driving please arrange to drop your children off in Essex Street and walk through Douglas Park, or on Pownall Street and let children walk the last short distance to school.   Using the entrance to the school in Kummer Crescent is also a good idea.
Do not drive into the school grounds.

SCHOOL TRAFFIC PATROL
•    Operates between 8:30 am - 8:55 am and 2:55 pm – 3:10 pm
•    Please set an example using the crossing yourself.
•    2 patrols to operate – Pownall Street & Cole Street.
•    Please no parking on the yellow lines by the school crossing.    They ensure the school patrol has clear vision in both directions.

SPECIAL SERVICES
A Resource Teacher of Learning & Behaviour (RTLB), Chris Ryan is based on site.   If you feel there are learning and/or behavioural issues discuss them with your class teacher and/or Principal so a referral can be made.   A Social Worker in School (SWIS) is also available for us.   Mr Ray Kawana has an office on site at Douglas Park School.

SUN SMART
Sunhats must be worn for all outdoor activity in Term 1 and Term 4 between 10:30 am and 3:00 pm.   We encourage the use of sunhats after 3:00 pm.     We also encourage the use of sun block and sun glasses.

STATIONERY
Exercise books and other stationery requirements may be purchased from the school office at very competitive prices.  Stationery purchases by students are to be made before 8:45 am.   If buying from other outlets please ensure the correct books are purchased.   Please supply good quality pencils.   Cheaper pencils break easily and cause huge frustration.

TOYS, ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT & CELL PHONES
We prefer that children do not bring any of the above to school.   They are too easily mislaid.   The school is not responsible for any of the above that are lost, mislaid or damaged.   Cell phones, electronic games, radios and walkmans are not to be brought to school.

TRAVELLING TO AND FROM SCHOOL
Plan with your child the safest way to travel to and from school, obeying all road signs and safety rules.   After school, all children need to return straight home.  We ask that all children’s after school activities be arranged at home before they come to school and that the children know the arrangements.

UNIFORMS
School uniform can be purchased from the school office.

USE OF SCHOOL GROUNDS
Children and families are welcome to use the school grounds out of school hours.   The Board of trustees accepts no responsibility for accidents out of school hours.   Any misuse of grounds must be reported to police.

VANDALISM
Wilful damage costs will be met by parent/caregiver of child responsible.

WARRANT OF FITNESS FOR CHILDREN
Remember children need:

➢    Plenty of sleep – ten hours for primary school aged children is recommended.

➢    To be well fed!   Breakfast is essential before a six hour school day.          A nourishing morning tea and lunch is required to keep them going.

➢    To be secure.   Children need reassurance and to have realistic expectations from their parents.

➢    To have a positive attitude.

➢    To have the correct gear e.g. stationery, lunch, library books, sport gear etc.   Don’t let children ring you to bring things – we encourage independence and self organisation.

➢    To be on time.   Consider 8:30 am onwards for your child to arrive at school.

WHEELERS BOOK CLUB
At times brochures will be sent home.   These are great books at great prices.  Orders to be returned to the office by the date requested.   It is a wonderful way to promote book ownership.
